A Quick Note from One of the Founder
I want to leave this industry in better shape for black folks than when I came into it, and I believe the only way to do that is not only continue to have difficult conversations, but to present and execute actionable times. That’s why New Meta Group will be vigilant in discovering pathways to bolstering leadership and ownership amongst the underrepresented demographics in the gaming industry. By us helping our brothers and sisters across different marginalized groups, we are in turn helping our own cause as well as the entire gaming ecosystem.
I also believe there’s work to be done not just from the inside of the gaming industry but for the majority of gamers who are on the outside as well. We all experience gaming in different ways and variables like economic background, cultural differences, etc– they all weigh into our experience with this medium and how we receive information. New Meta Group will strive to help provide commonality, a grounded outlook, and fundamental understanding amongst these different lifestyles.
You may hear us describe New Meta as an advocacy group, but don’t expect a formal approach similar to that of an organization like the Urban League. Our movement is homegrown and scrappy– traits relevant to a majority of the gaming base. What we’re trying to do on the surface may not look much different then a lot of what you’ve seen– podcasting, events, articles, and etc are all par the course in gaming these days. Our mission is that every endeavor we partake in feels different from the status quo, since there’s a clear purpose behind what we’re trying to accomplish. Providing a safe space and a force for black folks and any underrepresented group that aspires to make a positive impact in video games.
